The Fifth General Assembly

The Fifth General Assembly of The EUW in Rome - 1963

Pope Paul VI's Address to EUW during the 5th General Assembly in Rome
We know that the women taking part in the Fifth General Assembly of the E.U.W., being held in Rome, are present at this audience today. We are pleased with this visit, as we know of the importance of the Union, its high moral and civic ideals, its sincere Christian inspiration, its serious and systematic method of working, and we also know of the first results of its work. In thanking these ladies for their homage, we wish to encourage them to pursue their task, which will be neither easy nor rapid, but which is providential in awakening the conscience of women to the great cause of the unification of Europe, unification which one can surely judge as a necessary step in modern progress, a guarantee of peace, a necessary condition in order to maintain the patrimony of our civilisation and for its new radiance.
We appreciate the effort, which the E.U.W. is making in accomplishing this noble aim, and we hope that this effort may be upheld by a greater adherence by women, conscious of the duties and needs of our time. It is for this aim that we give our Blessing, with all our heart.
